Traditional Chinese folding screens which are normally made from wood, stone, and paint, require can be cleaned using Western restoration tools, as well as conventional cleaning methods.
Instructions
1. Use feather duster to run along the screen, from top to bottom. Dust the outside of the screen as well as the edges and through the cracks.
2. Take a clean towel and wet it with small amount of water. After removing excess water, clean the wooden edges of the screen, taking care to avoid the paper interior.
3. Wipe the wooden edges of the screen with a dry towel.
4. For washing any jade or lacquered portions of your folding screen, use a clean cloth dipped in warm soapy water. The cloth should not be allowed to touch any other portions of the screen as soap and moisture to avoid damage to the paper of the screen.
5. The jade or lacquered portion of the screen should be wiped using a clean cloth.
